“Ban export of cotton”

Staff Reporter

MADURAI: Madurai Spinners’ Association has urged the Union Government to ban the export of cotton and cotton waste to control cotton prices.

In a release, the association said that price of cotton had shot up from Rs. 18,000 per candy to Rs. 21,500. However, the yarn market had not gone up.

Frequent interruptions in power supply had also adversely affected production, leading to mounting losses.

The depreciating dollar added to the woes of exporters and threatened textile manufacturers
