4 held on Sagar Island

Staff Reporter

Kolkata: Four people were arrested on the Sagar Island on Friday on the charge of illegal radio transmission, a few days ahead of the Gangasagar pilgrimage.

The island is located on the Bay of Bengal, about 150 km south of Kolkata. Thousands of pilgrims congregate here every year around mid-January to take a holy dip on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.

The arrested persons were carrying out illegal transmission for a long time for the purpose of local advertisements, said Raj Kanojia, Inspector General (Law and Order).
