dated January 12, 1958: Indo-British friendship

Replying to a civic address presented to him and Lady Dorothy Macmillan by the citizens of Delhi at the Red Fort on January 10, the British Prime Minister, Mr. Harold Macmillan, called for the co-operation of India and Britain so that peace might prevail in this world. Mr. Macmillan referred to Mr. Nehru as “the senior of all Prime Ministers in the Commonwealth” and said that the attainment of independence by India and her decision to stay in the Commonwealth meant simultaneously the dissolution of the old relationship with Britain and the beginning of a new partnership.
