ICAR regional panel meets

Thiruvananthapuram: The 21st meeting of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Regional Committee No. VIII was inaugurated at CTCRI here on Friday by Mangala Rai, Secretary, DARE, Government of India and DG, ICAR. He said that under Eleventh Plan, an outlay of Rs.12,383 crore was approved for ICAR as against Rs.5,364 crores under the Tenth Plan.

He also remarked that the region comprising Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and the Union Territories of Puthucherry and Lakshadweep was endowed with rich biodiversity of fauna and flora. The region had around 40 per cent of Indian coastal line. He emphasised the need to strengthen quality seed production, value addition, quality education and skill upgradation. The two-day meeting is being attended by around 100 delegates comprising Vice-Chancellors, Directors of Research, Directors of Extension, deans from the Agricultural Universities of the region and directors of ICAR Institutes of the region.
