Delhi in last four

MANGALORE: Delhi University and Chandigarh University posted contrasting wins on the opening day of the all-India inter-university tennis tournament for women, which got underway at the Mangalore University tennis courts at Mangalagangothri near here on Friday.

While Delhi beat Mangalore 2-0, Chandigarh quelled the challenge from Mumbai 2-1 to enter the last four.

Since BHU and VBS Purvanchal did not turn up, Bangalore University and Osmania University got walkovers and have entered the last four.

The results: Delhi bt Mangalore 2-0 (Sanaa B. bt Jyothi H. 6-1, 6-0; Ankitha B. bt Preethi P. K. 6-0,6-0); Chandigarh bt Mumbai 2-1 (Neha Singh bt Sagarika Phadke 6-0, 6-4; Simer lost to Apurvika Shukar 3-6, 3-6; Neha Singh/Simer bt Apurvika Shukla/ Sagarika 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.).
