CHANDIGARH: Vijayant Malik warmed local hearts by making the boys’ final of the ITF grade III junior tennis tournament at the CLTA Complex here on Friday. The fourth-seeded DAV College student played forcefully to knock out second-seeded Joachim Sternbach of France 6-2, 6-4 and set up a title clash with Lewis Barnes of Britain, who had earlier upset top-seeded B. Vikram Reddy. The results: Under-18 boys (semifinals): Lewis Barnes (GBR) bt James Richardson (GBR) 4-6, 6-4, 6-1; Vijayant Malik bt Joachim Sternback (Fra) 6-2, 6-4. Quarterfinals: Barnes bt Vikram Reddy 7-5, 6-2; Richardson bt Sudanwa Sitaram 6-3, 6-0; Malik bt Christopher Marquis 6-2, 6-0; Sternback bt Roman Piftor 6-0, 6-1.
