Constable beaten; 3 held

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A driver of a delivery van and two of his friends have been arrested by the South Delhi police for allegedly beating up a traffic police constable who asked them for the driving licence during a routine vehicle check.

According to the police, Rajesh Kumar (34) was checking the documents of vehicles near the Sheikh Sarai traffic signal on Thursday when he stopped a delivery van and asked the driver for its registration documents and his driving licence. Instead of showing the documents, driver Sonu allegedly threatened the constable with dire consequences at which the policeman impounded the vehicle. Sonu later returned with his friends in the evening and allegedly kicked and punched Rajesh.
