Maxicab owners stage protest
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: Members of the Akhila Karnataka Maxicab and Motor Cab Owners’ Welfare Association on Friday held a demonstration in front of the Regional transport Office, Bangalore West, at Rajajinagar, protesting the mandatory installation of speed governors on all transport vehicles.
Federation president Bhairava Siddaramaiah said that enforcement of the mandatory rule exclusively in Karnataka had greatly affected the interests of the transport vehicle operators in the State as vehicles in the rest of the country were not bound by that rule.
Even if the courts decided in favour of mandatory installation of speed governors, they should be installed at the manufacturing stage itself and the rule should not be made mandatory for vehicles which were already on the roads.
Accidents
Mr. Siddaramaiah said that accidents were being caused in large numbers by private vehicles and not by maxicabs. Federation secretary Manjunath was present.
