Kochi: A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Friday directed the State government to file a statement in response to a petition seeking to entrust the control of the three central prisons with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The Bench comprising Justice J.B. Koshy and Justice K. Padmanabhan Nair adjourned to February 15 the hearing on the petition and also in the case relating to indiscriminate granting of parole and premature release of life convicts. The government produced the amended prison rules before the court. In his petition, E.A. Biju, an ex-prisoner, said criminals with political connections were enjoying luxurious life in jails. He said the control of prisons should be taken away from the police. Palm oil case Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan on Friday allowed the government and various farmers’ organisations to implead in the new case challenging the recent Central government order banning import of palm oil through all the ports of Kerala. Plea adjournedA Division Bench directed the government pleader to get instructions on a writ petition filed by Kerala Yukthivadi Sanghom president U. Kalanathan, seeking a direction to the State government to grant permission to him and his team to visit Ponnambalamedu at Sabarimala on Makarajyothi day.
