SHRC summons police officials

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has summoned Central Zone DCP Mohd. Iqbal and Saifabad police station Inspector K.V. Rama Narsimha Reddy following a complaint by newly-wed couple of being harassed by the police.

The Commission directed the DCP and the Inspector to submit a report by January 16 in this regard. The complainants, N. Aravinda Goud and Deepti, who fell in love and got married on Tuesday, approached the Commission stating that the police officials were pestering them though they had not committed any offence. The DCP and the Inspector stated before the Commision that Deepti’s father Venkateswara Rao lodged a complaint on Tuesday alleging that Mr. Goud had kidnapped his daughter following which a case was registered. They denied charges of harassment.
