Pongal with a difference

POLLACHI: Authorities at the Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park are organising the harvest festival, Pongal, at Top Slip near here with a difference.

Visitors and animal lovers can celebrate the festival with tamed elephants at the renowned biodiversity hot spot on January 16. All the 20 elephants at the camp will present a rally at the meadow.

According to sources, special diet with pongal, jaggery, sugarcane, coconut and banana will be served to the elephants.

‘Success Lions of Pollachi’ will present a set of shirt, dhoti and saree to all mahouts and kavadis, who take care of the elephants.

The visitors can feed the elephants with the special diet, officials said.
