CHENNAI: Music, dance, games, shopping and food have been put together at one venue - Rani Meyyammai Hall in Egmore - by the Rotary Club of Madras South to raise funds for a charitable medical diagnostic centre. The club needs about Rs. 20 lakh to procure equipment for the centre, which would cater to members of the lower middle class by offering them diagnostic services at a cost or free, if required. Rotafest allows families to spend a portion of their weekend for a good cause and also have a good time together, president B.B. Vengatesh said about the event, which is being held on Saturday and Sunday. Students from various city schools participated in a dance competition on Saturday morning. Professional troupes would also be performing at the venue. Games stallsSeveral games, including those testing aim and strength, have been set up. At one stall, visitors can get artistically done pictures on a computer printout by the manipulation of photographs into a charcoal sketch or painted effect. The adventurous can also add moustaches, beards and outlandish hairstyles to their pictures. Mobile phones, educational multimedia material, designer wear, books, and two-wheelers are available at the venue. Leading fast food chains have also set up shop here.
Rotafest is a ticketed event, but entry for students is free.
