DEVOTIONAL touch: With Sankranti festival round the corner, it is time for Haridasu to visit places , singing and accepting alms. —
The whole city has come alive with the festive spirit. After all, Sankrathi or Pongal comes once in a year. In Andhra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, it is considered the most significant harvest festival.
Customers are making a beeline to the showrooms at Jagadamba and Dwarakanagar to avail the attractive discounts and the schemes floated by the shop owners to lure them.
Says, Narava Prakasa Rao, a Vizagite, “Though we are modern and tech-savvy, during this time of the year, we make it a point to spend time with our close ones.
It is the period when we revel in buying new clothes and many people go to their native places to celebrate the festival.”
Apart from cloth showrooms, people are thronging jewellery marts as well.
At Poorna Market large number of women are seen buying jaggery and rice to make the traditional delicacies, Ariselu and Pongali.
