KC (J) ‘jatha’ for rail road

Staff Reporter

Demand is for Mumbai-Kanyakumari rail corridor

KASARAGOD: The Mumbai-Kanyakumari rail road development Jatha by Kerala Congress (Joseph) would be accorded a warm welcome at Kasaragod on January 16, the KC (J) district president Jetto Joseph said. The Jatha, to be led by party leader P.J. Joseph, would begin from Mumbai.

At a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Jetto Joseph said a public meeting would be held on the Kasaragod new bus stand premises at 9 a.m. on the day. After that, Mr. P.J. Joseph would participate in a farmers’ meeting to be held at the residence of farmers leader Gundiyaduka Venkata Ramana Bhat at Sitamgoli.

The aim of the Jatha was to convince the Central and State governments of the need to construct a high-speed rail corridor between Kanyakumari and Mumbai to facilitate quicker commuting from Kerala and Karnataka to Mumbai, Mr. Jetto Joseph. He demanded that bullet trains be introduced along the proposed corridor.

Less time, more tourists

He pointed out that the new corridor would reduce time for travel between Mumbai and Kerala to less than 10 hours. It would increase flow of tourists to south India considerably.

He noted that a memorandum on this, signed by 40 MPs, had already been submitted to the Prime Minister.
