NOTE takes exception to advertisement Kiosk owners asked to adhere to law PANAJI: The National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE, India), a non-governmental organisation working for tobacco eradication, has taken exception to the display of an advertisement in retail kiosks across Goa endorsing Four Square cigarette brand. In a letter to the manufacturer on Saturday, the non-governmental organisation alerted the company about the breach of law and sought an unconditional apology. It asked the company to withdraw the advertisement immediately. Referring to the controversial advertisement displayed in retail kiosks across the State, Shekhar Salkar, General Secretary of NOTE, said the advertisement sought to take undue advantage of emotional bonding of Goans. The display of advertisement would also invite stern action for defacement of public property. If the cigarette manufacturing company failed to comply with the demands, NOTE, India would initiate legal action against it, he said. “We appeal to Goan kiosk owners to adhere to law and not to fall prey to the lures of manufacturers of tobacco products,” Dr. Salkar said.
