Belgaum: Acting on the directions of the State Election Commission, the district administration launched a special electoral revision to prepare “error-free” electoral rolls in the district on January 11. The drive will continue till January 20. In a press release issued here on Friday, Deputy Commissioner M.E. Shivalingamurthy appealed to the people to cooperate with the officials concerned in preparing error-free electoral rolls. The officials would not only delete the names of ineligible persons, but also enlist eligible voters whose names had been left out during the recent revision. An elector should enlist his or her name only in one electoral constituency and avoid registering in multiple constituencies. Action would be taken against those who violated this direction of the Election Commission, he said. For 2,704 polling stations spread over 18 Assembly constituencies in the district, 1,600 block-level officers had been appointed for the special revision. During the revision from 2005 to 2007, 94,628 ineligible persons were listed in the electoral rolls, he said.
