Ujala-Asianet film awards announced

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ujala-Asianet film awards for 2008 have been announced.

Veteran actor Sheela has been selected for the Asianet life-time achievement award. ‘Kadhaparayumbol’ produced by Mukesh and Sreenivasan and directed by M. Mohanan has won the award for the best film while Lal Jose has been selected as the best director for his film ‘Arabikkatha.’

Mammootty has won the best actor award for his performances in the films ‘Big B’, ‘Ore Kadal’ and ‘Kadhaparayumbol’ while Meera Jasmine has won the best actress award for her roles in the films ‘Vinodayathra’ and ‘Ore Kadal.’

Mohanlal has been selected as the popular actor and he wins this award for his performances in various films. Jagathy Sreekumar has won the best character actor award for his roles in the films ‘Rock N Roll’ and ‘Hallo’ while KPAC Lalitha has won the award for the actress in this category for the films ‘Thaniye’ and ‘Nasrani.’

The performance of Kalabhavan Mani in the film ‘Chotta Mumbai’ won him the best villain award while Suraj Venjaramoodu has been selected as the best comedian for his performance in various films. Nedumudi Venu and Babu Thiruvalla who had scripted for the film ‘Thaniye’ have shared the award for best script-writer and Anil Panachuran has bagged the award for the best lyricist for the films ‘Arabikkatha’ and ‘Kadhaparayumbol.’

M. Jayachandran has won the best music director award for the film ‘Nivedyam.’ Madhu Balakrishnan has been selected as the best male singer in the film ‘Rock N Roll’ while K.S. Chithra has won the best female singer award for the film ‘Hallo.’ Ganapathi has won the best child artist award for his role in ‘Vinodayathra.’

The award for the best cinematographer goes to Manoj Pillai (‘Arabikkatha’ and ‘Rock N Roll’). Narayanan who edited the film ‘Thaniye’ has bagged the best editor award while Vinu Mohan and Bhama (‘Nivedyam’) have been selected as the best star pair. Actor Rejith Menon (‘Goal’) and actress Lekshmi Rai (‘Rock N Roll’) have won the awards for debut artists.
