Bangalore: The Karnataka State Legal Services Authority will launch the “Kanoonu Saaksharata Rath” mobile legal literacy unit, in the second week of March, for creating legal awareness and addressing legal and social problems of the rural people across the State. This was disclosed by the Chairman of the authority and Judge of the High Court V. Gopala Gowda at the meet the press programme organised by the Bangalore Reporters’ Guild here on Saturday. ObjectiveThe objectives of the programme are to impart legal education for all those focussing on women and children and to facilitate speedy disposal of pending cases related to motor vehicle accidents and land and family disputes. Besides, it would address local issues such as drinking water, drainage and transport, Mr. Gowda said. Mobile unitThe programme will start from Bidar. The mobile unit of the authority will cover the rural parts of the State with prior information to the authorities concerned at the district, taluk and gram panchayat levels. Literacy workshopsMr. Gowda said that there are 27 district and 152 taluk legal services authorities in the State. Each district authority has been asked to hold 24 literacy programmes and four workshops and each taluk authority has to conduct 12 literacy programmes and two workshops in the year. BudgetThe Government has allocated an over all budget of over Rs. 11 crore to the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority. Besides, it had given another Rs. 2 crore for establishing Lok Adalats on a permanent basis, he said.
