Heavy rush in trains, buses

TRAVEL woes: People trying to board a Kerala-bound train at Erode railway station on Saturday.
ERODE: Erode railway station witnesses serpentine queues as thousands of people throng the station to purchase tickets for various trains.
Holiday
As Pongal falls on January 15, many companies and colleges have declared holiday from January 12 to 17.
Though Government offices would function on Monday, many applied for leave.
Krishnan, who was waiting in the queue said, “I have been waiting in the queue for a long time.”
Reservation
Reservation seats for Chennai and Bangalore were full even two months ago. Tatkal booking for Chennai-bound trains was started on Saturday morning and within half an hour all the tickets were booked.
The counter opened at 8 a.m. and by 8.30 a.m. seats were full. There was great rush for Kerala and Tirunelveli passenger trains too.
Bus stands also were crowded. There was heavy rush in buses to Coimbatore, Madurai and Chennai.
Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation has arranged special buses to address the festival rush.
