Minister inspects newly-built Uzhavar Sandhai

SALEM: Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam has urged the people’s representatives to avoid unnecessary criticism and baseless allegations against officials.
Participating in the distribution of free colour television sets at a function in Theevattipatti near here on Friday, the Minister alleged that he was told that one of the MLAs had even torn the invitation, which was handed over to him by the officials for a function.
Mr. Arumugam claimed that the protocol was strictly followed while organising government functions and printing invitations.
Compensation
He said that the Omalur MLA, Tamilarasu of Pattali Makkal Katchi had not taken any steps to get the compensation to the farmers in his constituency, when they suffered losses due to the failure of cotton crop.
He spoke to the seed manufacturing company and asked it to pay compensation to the 93 affected farmers.
He said that works would be carried out to supply protected drinking water to Kanavaiputhur and Veppilaipatti villages in the Kadaiyampatti block at an estimated cost of Rs. 2.44 crore.
Welfare aid
The Minister handed over free colour television sets to 1,335 beneficiaries. He also distributed welfare assistance. Collector N. Mathivanan presided over the function. Salem MP K.V. Thangabalu and senior officials were present.
Later, the Minister inspected the newly-constructed Uzhavar Sandhai in Hasthampatti.
