Rajendran on Saturday presented cash rewards, commendation certificates and trophies to the police personnel for the best performance during 2007. Mr. Rajendran handed over the same to the officers and personnel at a function held at the Armed Reserve Parade grounds. Best performanceMr. Rajendran along with the Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, N. Chenbhagaraman (Salem) and Seema Agrawal (Coimbatore) handed over the trophies for best performance in terms of effective law and order maintenance with out caste and communal clashes, crime prevention and crime detection to the following Superintendents of Police: G. Karthiekayan (Coimbatore Rural District), Sonal V Misra (Erode), Y. John Nicholson (Namakkal), N. Bhaskaran (Salem), Najmal Hoda (Dharmapuri) and P.C. Thenmozhi (Krishnagiri). Commendation certificatesThe IG also handed over commendation certificates to eight Additional Superintendents of Police, 16 Deputy Superintendents of Police, 32 Inspectors while 64 Sub-Inspectors and 160 personnel in various constabulary ranks walked away with cash rewards. Talking to newsmen, Mr. Rajendran said that the West Zone recorded the highest recovery rate of 93 per cent during the year 2007 as against the 89 per cent in 2006. 93 per cent recovery was considered to be the highest in the last 25 years in West Zone as well as the State average rate of recovery. Of the Rs. 17 crore stolen property, the police had recovered Rs. 15.7 crore worth of stolen property including 5,000 sovereigns of gold jewellery. Law and orderFor ensuring maintenance of law and order and peace, as many as 114 persons who had taken to crime and unlawful activities as their career, Mr. Rajendran said. Night beat marchesIncreased night beat marches had helped control crime rate while reforms aimed at ensuring dignity and respect for poor people at police stations helped in changing the image of the police force, he said.
