Clearing house for small jobs
Special Correspondent
Bangalore: A U.S.-born researcher with Microsoft has thrown up his job in Bangalore to create an Internet-based clearing house for small jobs in Bangalore. If you need a housemaid, a part-time car driver, an ayah for your child or a ‘mali’ for your garden, where do you look?
These things worked by word of mouth. Now there is a website — www.babajob.com — where you may find exactly what you are looking for. A map alongside makes it easy to match a job seeker with a potential employer. To help the large majority of such job seekers who may not be Net-savvy, Babajob encourages third parties to help them create entries — even post their photos. They are paid a small honorarium for their trouble.
The site is the inspiration of Sean Blagsvedt, who came from the Redmond headquarters four years ago, to work with the Bangalore labs of the Microsoft Research.
He quit this job in April last year to set up Babajob with his step-father Ira Weise and another ex-Microsoft researcher, Vibhore Goyal. They were inspired by an Indian economist in Duke University (U.S.), Anirudh Krishna.
