Le Chatelier MHSS clinches title

Srivilliputtur: Le Chatelier Matriculation Higher Secondary School (Madurai), riding on Thirumurugan’s 64 and Vignesh’s four for six, beat KVS Matriculation HSS (Virudhunagar) by 145 runs in the last match of the semifinal round-robin league and clinched the title in the all-India inter-School boys’ Twenty20 cricket tournament for the Anandam Ammal Memorial Trophy here on Saturday.

Le Chatelier emerged the winner with an all-win record and bagged a cash prize of Rs. 25,000.

GHSS Kaveripakkam (Vellore) beat Government HSS (Umarikadu) by 79 runs for its second win to finish runner-up and took home Rs. 15,000.

GHSS (Umarikadu), with its only win over KVS MHSS, finished third and got Rs. 10,000 and KVS MHSS finished last to get Rs. 5,000.

The scores (League): Le Chatelier MHSS 192 for five in 20 overs (Thirumurugan 64) bt KVS MHSS 47 in 16.3 overs (Vignesh four for six); Govt. HSS (Kaveripakkam) 143 for four in 20 overs (Ramesh 52) bt Govt. HSS (Umarikadu) 64 in 17.3 overs (Dayasankar three for five including a hat-trick).

Player of the tournament: Thirumurugan.

St. Francis Xaviers wins

St. Francis Xaviers HSS (Dindigul) defeated Kshtriya Girls HSS (Virudhunagar) 3-1 for its third win in the last match of the super league and won the title in the all-India inter-Schools girls’ volleyball tournament and bagged a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 besides the Trophy.

Kshtriya GHSS finished runner-up and was richer by Rs. 15,000.

The results: St. Francis Xaviers bt Kshtriya 25-13, 25-23, 12-25, 25-18; Valluvar Gurukulam bt Sri Renuga Hindu HS 21-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-18, 15-12.

Player of the tournament: Jeyashri (Kshtriya GHSS).

Deivam scores 123

At Madurai, an unbeaten 123 by Deivam helped Modern Golden Star CC crush Deepak CC by 140 runs in the Deepak Memorial Trophy district-level Twenty20 cricket tournament on Saturday.

The scores: Modern Golden Star CC 233 in 20 overs (SM Deivam 123 not out) bt Deepak CC 93 for eight in 20 overs; Majestic Cubs CC 221 for six in 20 overs (Gopi 106 not out) bt JRP CC 38 in 13 overs (Sheik three for four, Bala three for eight); Babu CA 180 for seven (Babu 86, Yogesh 34) bt Maruthi CC 57 in 11 overs; Panneer Selvam CC 86 in 16 overs (Suresh three for 19) lost to Thirunagar CC 87 (Mahendra Raja 38 not out); Olympus CC 198 for eight in 20 overs (Srinivasan 45, Jaisankar 35) bt Emayam CC 69 in 15.3 overs (Jaisankar three for 14).

Easy for Anandam

At Theni, Anandam Textiles beat HKRH College (Uthamapalayam) by nine wickets in the TDCA-HDFC Bank Trophy district-level cricket tournament on Saturday.

The scores: HKRH College (Uthamapalayam) 62 in 17.4 overs lost to Anandam Textiles 64 for one in 6.5 overs; Cosmo CC 165 for five in 20 overs lost to Speed Boys CC 109 in 17.3 overs; Free Birds CC (Vadugapatti) 64 in 20 overs lost to CPA College (Bodi) 67 for three in eight overs.

Theajus BC posts win

At Dindigul, Theajus BC (Theni) defeated Vallalar BC (Dindigul) 44-35 in the inaugural match of the 30th annual Irulappan Servai Memorial Trophy State-level open basketball tournament at Batlagundu on Saturday.

The results: Theajus BC 44 (S. Raveendranath 18, M. Ananda Kumar 10) bt Vallalar BC 35 (Balaguru 18, Ganesan 10).

Clean sweep by CSMA

At Dindigul, CSMA HSS (Kovilur) girls made a clean sweep by winning all the three medals in women’s section of the district-level mini-marathon race recently.

The results: Men (21km): 1. V. Vasanth; 2. Sukumar Selva Prabu; 3. Manikandan. Boys (12km): 1. Suresh; 2. Pon Sanker; 3. Kalaiselvan. Women (10km): 1. S. Gomathi; 2. Nithiya Jenifer; 3. Punitha Jone.
