Viva Kerala takes on Mohun Bagan

Principal Correspondent

KOZHIKODE: Mohun Bagan will not take Viva Kerala lightly in Sunday’s ONGC I-League football match, the Bagan skipper, Baichung Bhutia, told the reporters here on Saturday.

“Though we are playing Viva on their home ground, I am confident that I would get support from the crowd of Kozhikode, who have always encouraged me,” Bhutia added. “My team has now got its rhythm back in the league.”

He praised the efforts of Bob Houghton, chief National coach. He also talked about the need for rescheduling the domestic calendar.

Sunday’s match offers Bagan an opportunity to avenge the shocking 1-3 defeat it suffered at home against Viva.

The Kochi-based club goes into the match after its morale-boosting 3-2 win over Air-India earlier in the week.

“Bagan is a well-balanced side and has been doing pretty well after a not-so-good start,” Viva coach, A.M. Sreedharan, said.

“Our aim is to win the game as we have to get maximum points from our home matches. The team is certainly capable of beating Bagan for a second time. ”
