Ram Nagar CC stuns RCT

Coimbatore: Ram Nagar Cricket Club scored a stunning two-wicket win over fancied Ramakrishna Cricket Trust (RCT) in its opening fixture of the CDCA-approved Texcity Twenty20 cricket tournament at the CIT grounds here on Saturday.

After restricting Ramakrishna to 163 for three, Ram Nagar scored the required runs in 19.4 overs losing eight wickets.

The scores: CIT 115 for nine lost to Cosmo Village CC 116 for three in 14.5 overs (Jaiganesh 45 not out); Ramakrishna CT 163 for three in 20 overs lost to Ram Nagar CC 165 for eight in 19.4 overs.

Inter-University athletics

The 68th all-India inter-University athletics championship begins Chidambaram on Sunday.

A total of 1,915 athletes from 122 varsities will take part in the five-day event hosted by the Annamalai University.

Defending champion Mahatma Gandhi University (Kottayam) will have the highest representation with 52 members.

Suresh Fives advance

Title favourite Suresh Fives (Coimbatore) chalked out a 29-6, 29-8 win over NIA Institution (Pollachi) in the second round of the Coimbatore district senior ball badminton championship for men and women at the Nehru Stadium courts on Saturday.

The championship will serve as selection trials for the district team for the inter-district championship to be held at Elampillai, Salem, on January 19 and 20.

Ball badminton tournament

At Tirupur, the Himalaya Sports Club will conduct a State-level ball badminton (fives) tournament and one senior tournament for men and women at the Chinnasamy Ammal HSS courts on January 26 and 27.

At Udhagamandalam, Youngstars Sports Club scored a 3-1 win over Four Hills Sports Club in the NDFA-Lions Club of Ooty Town second division football league at the HADP Open Air Stadium on Saturday.

The results: Youngstars SC 3 bt Four Hills SC 1; Oriental FC 2 bt Young Buds 0; JM SC 2 bt United SC 1; Nilgiris Challengers 3 bt Meeckeri FC 1; Hills King SC 0 bt CFA SC 0.

Easy for KHSC

Soundarapandian scored a brace as Khajamian Higher Secondary School blanked Bishop Heber Higher Secondary School (Teppakulam) 2-0 to win the title at the Soccer King Pele football tournament, conducted by the Tiruchi District Football Association, in Tiruchi on Saturday.
