Semifinalists spotted

MANNANAM: St. Ephreme’s (Mannnam), St. Joseph’s (Pulicunnu), G.V. Raja Sports School (Thiruvananthapuram) and St. Joseph’s HSS (Thiruvananthapuram) qualified for the semifinals of the fifth St. Ephreme’s Trophy all-Kerala inter-School basketball tournament here on Saturday.

In the first quarterfinals, St. Ephrem’s defeated St. Ann’s HSS (Kurianad) 77-40 and in the second, St. Joseph’s beat MIM Seminary (Mannanam) 57- 37.

St. Joseph’s HSS got the better of SC Seminary HSS (Tiruvalla) 52-24 and G.V. Raja Sports School scraped past St. Thomas HSS (Kozhencherry) 52-51 to complete the semifinal line-up.

The results: St. Ephrem’s HSS (Mannanam) 77 (Jobin Varghese16, Roby Thomas 14) bt St. Ann’s HSS (Kurianad) 40 (Joyal George 18); St. Joseph’s HSS (Pulicunnu) 57 (Sreejith 12, Sarath 10) bt MIMS Seminary 37 (Tinse Baby16, Seju 11).

St. Joseph’s HSS, (Thiruvananthapuram) 52 (Christy 14, Vineeth 13) bt SC Seminary HSS (Tiruvalla) 24 (Anil Joseph 10); G.V. Raja HSS (Thiruvanathapuram) 52 (Shinil 15) bt St. Thomas HSS (Kozhencherry) 51 (Richard Baby 21, Arjun Krishna 10).

Easy for Rovers

Rovers CC defeated State Bank of Travancore ‘B’ by six wickets in the Canara Bank-TDCA ‘A’ division cricket league at the Medical College ground in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday.

The scores: SBT ‘B’ 101 in 34.5 overs (Ratish 40, R.Vinod four for 15, Bibin Chatterjee three for 20) lost to Rovers CC 102 for four in 15.3 overs (Aaron 54 n.o.).
