South Zone triumphs

BANGALORE: South Zone defeated East Zone 25-22, 25-4, 25-22 to claim the title in the DGQA volleyball tournament here on Saturday.

Jagdeesh and Shankara played well for the winner, while Sana and K. Ghosh impressed for East Zone.

Maj. Gen. Surendra Kalra of DGQA (Electronics) presided and gave away the prizes.

MBC reigns

Mangalore Basketball Club and Rajmahal Basketball Club emerged champions in the State-level under-13 basketball championship by Dr. Ambedkar BC.

In the boys’ final, Mangalore BC defeated Dr. Ambedkar BC 58-48 and in the girls’ section, Rajmahal Club defeated Dr. Ambedkar BC 21-16.

Arun of Mangalore BC and Nishitha of Ambedkar BC were adjudged the best players of the tournament in the boys’ and girl’ sections respectively.

Two former internationals, R. Rajan (basketball) and Arjun Devaiah (athletics), were honoured on the occasion.

National sub-jr. throwball

The 16th National sub-junior throwball championship for boys and girls will be held at the Hombe Gowda Nagar Stadium in Wilson Garden here from January 14 to 16. The Amateur Throwball Association of Karnataka (ATAK) will conduct the event that is expected to feature nearly 700 players from 26 States.

The matches will be played on a league-cum-knock-out basis. Andhra Pradesh is the defending champion in both the boys’ and girls’ sections, while Karnataka was the runner-up in both segments.

The Indian sub-junior teams will be selected during this championship.
