JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government has decided to forward to the Centre proposals for construction of houses for tribals under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme to provide shelter to the tribal population in southern districts of the State. State Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Kalulal Gujjar said here on Saturday that the scheme could be gainfully utilised to provide low-cost dwelling units, on the lines of the Keshavbadi Yojana, to tribals. Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje had suggested formulation of new proposals during her visit to the Tribal Sub-Plan areas in the State recently. Mr. Gujjar said the NREGS guidelines presently did not provide for construction of houses. The Centre’s approval to the State Government’s proposals is expected to provide a big relief to homeless tribals.
