VISAKHAAPTNAM: MLC MVS Sarma has urged the State Government to regularise buildings within 200 sq. yards, free of cost. Talking to reporters here on Saturday, he said that he had written a letter to the Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Koneru Rangarao, to this effect. “The recent GOs 901 and 902 issued by the Government came as a curse on the middle class people. Instead of helping them by way of regularisation, the Government seems bent on extorting money from them. They are giving land to billionaires like Swraj Paul at Rs.1 lakh a acre and collect Rs.7 crores for housing projects,” he remarked. He felt that the rules should be amended to stop irregular constructions. But now all irregularities are regularised on payment which would help only the rich. He alleged that the Government had set a target of collecting Rs.10,000 crores under the building regularisation scheme (BRS). Visakhapatnam Apartment Residents’ Welfare Association (VARWA) president Vijay Kumar said that the VARWA would take up a struggle again till the BRS charges were brought down.
