Two groups clash; three arrested

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Three young men, including a Class XII student, were arrested by the North Delhi police following a scuffle between some students and local residents at Timarpur in North Delhi over the weekend.

According to the police, a group of students staying in rented accommodation in the Nehru Vihar area and mostly preparing for civil services examinations were loitering about in the street on Friday evening when a few locals objected to their presence and their blocking the way of passers-by.

This led to a minor altercation between the two groups and some heated words were exchanged.

The situation took a violent turn then and the two groups allegedly rained blows on each other.

Some vehicles were also damaged in the ensuing free-for-all.

Three persons sustained minor injuries and separate complaints were subsequently lodged with the police by both the groups.

The police later arrested three persons.
