CHIKMAGALUR: Deputy Commissioner Naveen Raj Singh said on Friday that the electoral rolls would be scrutinised at eight levels to ensure that the coming elections were held in a fair and free manner. Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Singh said care would be taken to ensure that eligible voters were included and ineligible voters deleted from the list of voters. He said the list would be scrutinised by a nodal officer appointed for every 10 booths, Tahsildar, Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and the Election Commission. Stating that a house-to-house survey had been launched in the district, he appealed to the people to cooperate with the officials. The survey would continue till January 31. He said that students, who were first-time voters, should get a letter from the head of their educational institution. He said that 74 per cent of the voters in the district had been issued voter-identity cards. The Deputy Commissioner said the voters’ list would be finalised by February 7 and a draft roll would be ready by February 10. According to the 2007 census, the population of the district is 12.26 lakh. Of them, 8.25 lakh are (67 per cent) are eligible to vote. There are 4.19 lakh men voters.
