On Saturday, Chikkahole Gram Panchayat member Murthy and his friends were assaulted allegedly by the wine shop owner and his supporters for helping the SHG members to take out a dharna in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office recently demanding shifting of the wine shop in the village. Soon after the incident, the SHG members gathered in front of the wine shop and raised slogans against its owner. Later, the shop owner’s supporters allegedly assaulted the women. Two women who sustained injuries were admitted to the district hospital here. President of the SHG Premalatha said that the district administration had not taken any steps to shift the wine shop despite repeated requests. She said the women would continue their agitation till the shop was closed. Police personnel have been deployed in the village and situation is under control.
