HYDERABAD: The statement of Congress Working Committee member and Peddapalli Member of Parliament G. Venkataswamy that he would quit the Lok Sabha if the second States Reorganisation Commission (SRC) was constituted had an electrifying effect on the party leaders from Telangana on Saturday. Mr. Venkataswamy was flooded with phone calls from party leaders and his well-wishers, who congratulated him for coming out openly on the issue. AICC secretary and Nizamabad MP Madhu Yaskhi called on the senior leader at his residence here and discussed the political developments. SolidarityParty sources said several Congress MLAs also visited Mr. Venkataswamy’s residence and held discussions. Two State Ministers were said to have telephoned him to express their support. A rebel TRS legislator also met the MP. Sources said that more leaders might come out openly against the move to constitute second SRC. Mr. Yaskhi told The Hindu that as the party secretary, he had called on Mr. Venkataswamy. “When a senior leader like him makes such a statement and comes out openly on the issue, it shows the concern of the party leaders.” Along with other leaders, he would take up the Telangana issue with the party president and the general secretary. “We want to bring to their notice the strong feelings of the people of the region and their aspirations for a separate State,” he added.
