Pathetic sight

It is a sorry sight to see girls hailing from poor families and studying in government schools coming in pathetic condition. The teachers are pained to see these indigent children, who are deprived of even basic amenities.

A sense of low esteem surrounds them when they sit beside the girls who hail from well-to-do families. How can we brag our Chandrayan while a large number of our girl children suffer from hunger? At this juncture, it is necessary on the part of the Government to provide scholarships and good clothes to the girl students. Such incentives will surely boost their morale and make them live with dignity on a par with their classmates.

For whose benefit?

This is not the proper time to split Andhra Pradesh and carve out a separate state for Telangana. Definitely, it would be an irreparable loss to the Telangana region. End losers would be the Telangana students, as the educational institutions there may not function as they are doing now.

Some of the colleges might also be closed down due to lack of sufficient strength. Telangana Rashtra Samithi leader K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s movement is only for his selfish ends.

I suggest that all other national and local leaders not support the movement that benefits only a few people.

Second SRC

All-India Congress Committee general secretary M. Veerappa Moily recently announced the Centre’s intention to constitute a second States’ Reorganisation Commission to consider the demand for separate Telangana and Vidarbha.

It appears that the Congress is trying to test the waters with this statement.

The Congress would have constituted the second SRC had it been sincere on this issue.

It always played a dubious role with regard to separate Telangana state. It is high time the Congress spelt out it stand clearly.

Wrong approach

Congress leader Veerappa Moily’s announcement came in for sharp criticism from the Congress, who viewed the second SRC as a delaying tactic, as well as other political parties. Definitely, the second SRC would have disastrous consequences for the Congress. We can have a separate State without a second SRC too.

It appears that the Congress is worried that the CPI (M), which is opposing Telangana, might withdraw its support to the UPA Government, if a bill is introduced in Parliament. The Congress should look at larger benefits of people, instead of power that lasts for a short period.

K. Swaroopa Rani,

Yellendu

Keep your promise

The Congress is committed to constitution of the Second SRC as mentioned in its election manifesto. Telangana continued to be high on the agenda of the Congress.

In tune with its manifesto for the 2004 general elections, it had announced that the Government was seriously considering constitution of an SRC.

Telangana leaders who are voicing against SRC had agreed to the promises. These leaders are making loud noises only for their survival in the next general elections.

The Congress should go ahead and implement the election manifesto.
