Don Cricket Club emerges champion

HYDERABAD: Don Cricket Club (Hyderabad) won the NTR memorial Gold Cup Twenty20 invitation cricket tournament with a five-wicket victory over Sholapur Cricket Club in the final at Zaheerabad on Sunday, according to information received here.

Santosh Yadav of Don was named ‘man of the match’ for his 40, while teammate Ronit Bisht was adjudged ‘best batsman’ of the tournament.

The scores: Sholapur CC 145 (Aamir three for 34, Ashok Singh three for 24) lost to Don Cricket Club (Hyd) 147 for five (Santosh Yadav 40).

Silver for Sai

R. Chandna Sai, a student of Chaitanya Junior College, won a silver medal in the trampoline event for seniors on Sunday in the on-going all-India trampoline and acrobatics championship at Naupada, Maharashtra, according Krishna District Gymnastic Association secretary A.S. Raju. Sai is a trainee at the SAI gymnastic centre at VPS Public School in Vijayawada.

Anil Kumar, Appoorwa triumphs

V. Anil Kumar and S. Appoorwa, both from Hyderabad, won the men’s and women’s singles titles respectively in the Orchid Homes 36th senior inter-district and State Open carrom championship here on Sunday.

Anil downed M.A. Hakeem 17-25, 25-10, 25-4 in the men’s final, while Appoorwa got the better of P. Nirmala 25-13, 22-25, 25-23 in the women’s final.

Ganapathi posts win

Ganapathi Engineering College (Warangal) recorded a 27-run win over Chadalawada Ramanamma (Tirupati) in the sixth SR Champions Trophy State-level inter-engineering colleges’ cricket tournament at Warangal.

The scores: Mother Theresa (Peddapalli) 96 for four lost to Vijay Rural (Nizamabad) 97 for four.

Ganapathi Engg. College (Warangal) 129 for eight (Dinesh 56) bt Chadalawada Ramanamma (Tirupati) 102 (Srikanth three for 24).

Adams Engg. College (Khammam) 124 for nine (Santosh 64 n.o., Raghu six for 17) bt Malla Reddy Engg College 113.

K. Ravi Kumar’s 94 helped Young Stars score a 101-run win against Railways ‘B’ in the Krishna District Cricket Association ‘B’ division league tournament for Devineni Venkataramana–Praneetha Memorial Trophy in Vijayawada on Sunday.

The scores: Young Stars 219 in 38 overs (K. Ravi Kumar 94, Srinivas three for 26) bt Railways ‘B’ 118 in 23 overs (Chanti three for 30, Vijay three for 31).

GRCC, SNBTM post wins

GRCC scored a 93-run win over Guntur Veterans while Repalle’s SNBTM registered a seven-wicket victory over LEM Stars in the Guntur District Cricket Association ‘A’ division league tournament at Guntur on Sunday.

The scores: LEM Stars 108 in 25 overs lost to SNBTM (Repalle) 112 for three in 15 overs (Sk. Amir 50).

GRCC 173 for seven in 30 overs bt Guntur Veterans 80 in 15 overs (Giribabu three for 17).

U-25 trials

The trials to select Andhra Cricket Association’s Central Zone under-25 team will be held at Loyola Public School grounds at Nallapadu, Guntur, on January 21 at 9 a.m.

Players born on or after 1-9-1982 are eligible for participation. The players should bring the date of birth certificates attested by their respective district association secretaries, said CZ secretary M. S. P. V. Ramana Murthy.

Quarterfinalists spotted
