Salem scores

THANJAVUR: Salem defeated Cuddalore 54-34 to win the girls’ title at the inter-district youth basketball championship, jointly conducted by the Thanjavur District Basketball Association and Kamala Subramaniam MHSS, here on Sunday. The winner led 32-26 at half time.

The results: Girls: Final: Salem 54 (Rajapriyadarshini 10, Indrapriyadarshini 10) bt Cuddalore 34 (Vasuki 10).Third place:Chennai 57 bt Erode 44. semifinals: Cuddalore 52 bt Chennai 37; Salem 36 bt Erode 23.

Easy for Eleven Star

Chandru and Barkatullah scored half centuries as Eleven Star CC defeated Royal CC by 76 runs in a first-round encounter of the State-level invitation cricket tournament for the RKV Cup in Tiruchi on Sunday.

The scores: Eleven Star CC 245 for seven in 30 overs (Chandru 58, Barkatullah 52, Ponnan 47) bt Royal CC 169 for nine in 30 overs.

Kaveri 176 for five in 30 overs (R. Shanmugaraja 43 not out, R. Senthilvelan 41) bt Srinivasa Nagar Blues 152 in 29 overs.
