New water scheme for Srivilliputtur

It will provide 61 lakh litres of water a day to the town

VIRUDHUNAGAR: Srivilliputtur will get protected drinking water through Vasudevanallur combined drinking water scheme at a cost of Rs. 29.49 crore, the Minister for Backward Classes Welfare, K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, has said.

Inspecting the municipality on Saturday, the Minister said that the drinking water scheme, for which the works were underway, would provide 61 lakh litres of water a day to the town. Several overhead tanks would be constructed for equal distribution of water.

At present 15 lakh litres of water was being drawn through several sources. The project would fulfil the town’s water requirement of 76 lakh litres a day, he added.

Mr. Ramachandran said that underground drainage system at a cost of Rs. 27.20 crore would be implemented. Pipelines would be laid for 54.1 km to collect sewage.

Damaged roads in the town would be re-laid after implementing the underground drainage and drinking water schemes.

Two drainage channels running through the town would be desilted at a cost of Rs. 180.25 lakh, the Minister added.

New bus stand

Later, inspecting Rajapalayam municipality, he said that the new bus stand at Rajapalayam would be inaugurated by Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin in February.

Several development works, including up-gradation of roads, desilting of drainage channels would be carried out. Collector V. Chandrasekaran, and Srivilliputtur MLA T. Ramasamy accompanied him.
