SKU plans news courses

2007, an eventful year for SKU: V-C

ANANTAPUR: The year 2007, was an eventful year for Sri Krishnadevaraya University (SKU) here, Vice Chancellor A. Rama Rao said on Sunday. They had achieved a lot during the year, but lot more was to be achieved.

Talking to newspersons on the campus he stated that silver jubilee of the university was celebrated during the year and the 14th convocation was held.

An amount of Rs. 3.5 crore was collected as donations from philanthropists and was being utilised for construction of the new buildings for engineering college and other civil needs.

MoU with ADI

On the academic front, employment opportunities were provided to scores of university students by conducting job melas by different departments, combined classes were introduced for common subjects in life sciences, online admissions were conducted for ICET, LAWCET, PECET, EdCET during the year and B.Ed course was also introduced.

A memorandum of understanding was entered into with ADI Foundation for improving and honing skills of students and making them suitable for the job market. Drinking water problem was also overcome with the university linked to Satya Sai water supply scheme.

On the vision for the coming years, the V-C said they were planning to introduce about a dozen under-graduate and post graduate courses in distance education mode, opening a website for the Centre for Distance Education, construction of compound wall covering entire area of the university and improvement of central library.

Besides, the university also had the plans to start a pharmacy college and commencing two new courses, EEE and IT, in engineering college, setting up a digital library for engineering college and getting more funds under the block grant were among other plans up the sleeve, the V-C stated. Registrar Y. Krishna Reddy and others were also present at the media conference.
