Naidu’s allegations against State government baseless, says

Chief Whip

CHITTOOR: Chief Whip Kiran Kumar Reddy has challenged Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu to an open debate on the development of Kuppam constituency during the nine-year TDP rule and under the three-year Congress rule.

Addressing a press conference along with Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy here, Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy said though Mr. Naidu was a native of Chittoor district he hadn’t implemented a single project worth mention for the benefit of people.

He alleged that Mr. Naidu was making baseless charges against Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy out of sheer frustration.

Ridiculing the TDP chief’s charge that the Arogya Sri scheme was introduced to help insurance companies and corporate hospitals, the Chief Whip said it was done with an intention to provide quality medicare to the poor.

Mr. Naidu’s Heritage Dairy had ruined the cooperative milk sector in Chittoor much to dismay of small and marginal farmers, he alleged. The government in order to help such farmers started 100 bulk milk centres in the district being run by self-help groups

Projects

The two cooperative sugar factories at Chittoor and Gajulamandyam were revived in order to help cane growers. Work on Handri Neeva, Galeru Nagari and Telugu Ganga projects was also in progress by spending nearly Rs. 4,000 crore. It would help irrigate thousands of acres besides providing drinking water to people.
