Talented: Janet James By scoring four A grades in all the four items she competed, Janet James, Class 1X student from St. Joseph’s High School, Pushpagiri, Kannur, has become the cynosure of the 48th State Schools Arts Festival under way here. Even as the result of the fifth item she competed, folk dance, was awaited on Sunday, Janet has clearly emerged as the individual champion (girls) of the festival. This highly talented girl was the individual champion at last year’s State Schools Arts Festival. The four items for which she was awarded the A grade are mono act, Bharatanatyam, kuchipudi and Mohiniyattom. For mono act she bagged the first prize. While her name was listed at the top in the result sheet of the Bharatanatyam event, the ranking of the event has gone to court. At last year’s festival; she had won the first place in Bharatanatyam. Janet was so talented and at ease with dancing that at the age of 10, she won a scholarship from the New Delhi-based Centre for Cultural Resources and Training. She says that her mother, Jacintha, is her guru and that has been endorsed by her father, James. Ignatius Pereira
