3,000 left stranded on Srinagar-Jammu highway

Shujaat Bukhari

SRINAGAR: A massive traffic jam on the Srinagar-Jammu highway on Saturday night led to the blockade of the only road link connecting Kashmir with rest of the country.

Passengers who reached Srinagar on Sunday accused officials of spreading misinformation about the highway being open for two way traffic. “If the highway was not ready why did authorities allowe vehicles from both sides,” asked one of the passengers.

They said no official was present on the highway to defuse the situation.

“It was a free-for-all and one could see vehicles parked wrongly which added to the confusion and the road block for more than six hours,” they said
