Film: Pourudu Cast: Sumant, Kajal Director: Rajaditya After the disastrous ‘Class Mates’, Sumant bounces back with ‘Pourudu’ which has all the ingredients of an action movie. The movie is an absolutely smashing with its excellent creative team work well displayed. Ajay (Sumant) excels in studies despite a tempestuous childhood and has love-hate relationship with his father Pandu (Suman) who works for a local ‘Bhai’. Though the son and father duo is constantly at loggerheads with each over dealing with the corrupt system, they share a warm and unique bond. Life changes drastically for Ajay when his father is murdered. There is a shift in Ajay’s character, from confidence and quite power to law breaker and revenge seeker. Every moment of ‘Pourudu’ delivers exactly what it should. The script is perfect, deftly turning the whole film into a suspense so tightly constructed that you can’t see the seams, even when the last piece is slid into place. Each scene is important and each line of dialogue resonates within the context of the film. The tone of the film shifts constantly between touching human moments, disturbing scenes of violence, and a substantial dose of romance but one wishes the narration is fast paced. Sumant delivers a knock out performance. He gives a sensitive, underplayed performance that is full of nuance. Suman is credulous and Kajal looks sweet, good in scenes when her character tries to work out friendly equations with Sumant and Suman. The supporting cast is impressive as well. Cinematography is slick, it lent remarkably to the tone, ambience, and mood of the film. But music is not that great. While Brahmanandam provides the laughs, Ali’s character is repetitive. One of the most unnerving tasks for any filmmaker is to establish his characters with conviction and Rajaditya scored. Y. Sunita Chowdhary
