‘Happy serving people of Maharashtra’ Prominent leaders call on Krishna
Leaders all: Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh (left) with that State’s Governor S.M. Krishna at the latter’s residence in Bangalore on Sunday. Mr. Deshmukh had come to express his condolences on the death of Mr. Krishna’s sister. Bangalore: Governor of Maharashtra S.M. Krishna on Sunday said that he had left the issue of his return to State politics to “destiny” and that for the present he was happy “serving the people” of the neighbouring State. Mr. Krishna, who has been here over the last two days following the death of his elder sister Akkayyamma told presspersons at his residence at Sadashivanagar that he had come to the city to attend his sister’s funeral. He had been deeply attached to her as she had brought him up. A large number of Congress leaders and friends visited his residence and offered condolences. Prominent among them was Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh. Mr. Deshmukh, a senior Congress leader, was with Mr. Krishna for over half-an-hour. President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee M. Mallikarjun Kharge; the former Ministers G. Parameshwar, also a member of the Congress Working Committee, and D.K. Shivakumar and Mudduhanume Gowda, former MLA, met Mr. Krishna. President Pratibha Patil telephoned Mr. Krishna and expressed her condolences. The Governor is returning to Mumbai on Wednesday. Mr. Krishna offered his greetings to people of both the States on the occasion of Sankranti.
