MLAs: come clear on ‘greater Rayalaseema’

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Upping the ante for a separate State, senior Congress legislators in Andhra Pradesh E. Pratap Reddy and Gangula Pratap Reddy wanted an announcement to be made on ‘greater Rayalaseema’ first if the formation of Telangana becomes inevitable. Rayalaseema could not achieve development on a par with the other two regions , they said here on Sunday. They said since the formation of Telangana appeared ‘certain’, people of Chittoor, Anantapur, Kadapa and Kurnool districts, in addition to Nellore and Prakasam, had the right to demand a separate State. Defending their stand on statehood for Rayalaseema, they said they did not want to be accused of remaining silent at this juncture when others were announcing their stand on separate States. A delegation of Congress leaders would represent the matter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi shortly seeking her support for ‘greater Rayalaseema’.
