CISF cop fires 19 bullets in Red Fort

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: In what appears to be accidental firing, a Central Industrial Security Force constable allegedly pumped 19 bullets from his service weapon into the ground inside the historic Red Fort premises here on Saturday. The constable’s semi-automatic rifle has been seized and he has been placed under suspension pending enquiry.

CISF spokesperson Vertul Singh said the incident took place around 7 p.m. on Saturday when Constable Sanappa Pujari, who is a resident Karnataka, accidentally pulled the trigger firing 19 bullets near the Salimgarh post inside Red Fort. “It was simply a case of mishandling of the weapon. The constable has been placed under suspension and a statutory court of enquiry has been ordered into the incident.
