SAGAR (SHIMOGA DISTRICT): Journalist Ravi Belagere said here on Saturday that the number of ideal persons who could inspire with their qualities and commitment to the cause of excellence was fast dwindling. He was speaking at a function organised by the B.R. Bheemachar Felicitation Committee to honour four teachers who retired from service. Mr. Belagere said that the chaos arising out of the absence of inspiring personalities was being noticed in all spheres of life. He said the cultural standard of Sagar had been enhanced with the honour offered to its retiring teachers, as the show of respect to elderly persons was one of the pre-requisites of a cultured society. Author Na. D’Souza said that the teachers were known for their selfless efforts in inculcating discipline among students. Advocate and president of the committee K. Diwakar presided over the function. B.R. Bheemachar, M. Madhav Pai, Samaga Ramaswamy and Gundappa were honoured. A purse of Rs. 1 lakh was given as “Guru Kanike” to Mr. Bheemachar.
