Sir, — The Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation and Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board have revised the water tariff without looking in to the welfare of people. The new tariff affects 7.25 lakh customers who are outside the 24x7 water scheme, and benefits 1.25 lakh people covered by the scheme. Although the HDMC charges uniform rates for services such as trade licences, building permission, hotel licences, vendor licences and vehicle cess for those living in the twin cities, differential rates governing water supply are justified. The HDMC Commissioner should sort out the issue immediately. Balmurali Krishna Mangalore Hold ‘Janata darshans’ at district-levelSir, — Governor Rameshwar Thakur is holding Janata darshans in Bangalore. I request him to hold the same at districts, once a month. At taluk-level, the tahsildars should hold janata darshans, every month. The grievances and applications received during these darshans should be appropriately attended to and action taken. The development activities should not be stopped during President’s rule in the State and officials should discharge their duties, sincerely. S.N. Amrith Malla Mangalore Poor transport facilities Sir, — The Kengeri Upanagara town is slowly becoming over-populated, and transport facilities from Kempe Gowda bus-stand are poor, resulting in overcrowded buses. Elderly women find it difficult to board them. The authorities are requested to introduce more bus pass specials for K.S. Town from Kempe Gowda bus-stand between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. so that people can return home safely. K.S. Sundaram Bangalore Fare increaseSir, — The demand for fare increase by autorickshaw drivers is unjustified as most vehicles use liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The proposed minimum fare of Rs. 20 is not acceptable as the current rates are good enough to run petrol-driven vehicles as well. The authorities should not give in to their demands. V.
