TASMAC employees demand eight hour work
Staff Reporter
Seek parity: TASMAC employees staging a demonstration in front of TASMAC Head Office at Angeripalayam in Tirupur on Friday.
TIRUPUR: More than 200 members of the Tirupur District TASMAC Workers Union, affiliated to the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), on Friday staged a demonstration pressing for a charter of demands, including eight hour a day work.
Led by M. Chandran, State secretary of the CITU, they staged a demonstration in front of the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) office at Angeripalayam here. The employees demanded wages on a par with the Government employees and dearness allowance, weekly off and travel allowance.
They insisted that there should not be any recovery from the workers from their sales incentive on account of damages in carton boxes.
S. Murugesan, district secretary of the union, urged the authorities to reinstate the staff, who had been suspended, as per the High Court directive.
He asked the authorities not to resort to acts of vendetta. Union’s vice president M. Beer Mohammed wanted the authorities to take necessary steps to collect the sale amount daily at the shop itself.
He recalled the existing arrangement in Chennai in which a private banker has been collecting daily sale amount from the shop, in view of safety concerns. Staff from various places, including Palladam and Udumalpet took part in the agitation.
