I have asked the authorities to ensure that the flow of water on Odais should not be hindered and the public interest should be protected during the process,” Mr. Periasamy said. Accompanied by Coimbatore MP K. Subbarayan, Tirupur legislator C. Govindasamy and Mayor K. On the progress of distribution of free land to the landless farm workers, Mr. Periasamy said the Government had distributed 1.60 lakh acres to 1.30 lakh beneficiaries so far. Citing the experience of West Bengal, where he along with officials had toured to study land reform process, the Minister said the West Bengal Government had identified genuine beneficiaries and even distributed 15 cents to 20 cents for farming. In Tamil Nadu, the work to distribute land to the landless farm labourers would continue whenever the officials find suitable lands to distribute to farmers.
