Seventeen injured in Guwahati grenade blast

Sushanta Talukdar

Guwahati: Seventeen persons, including a minor girl, were injured in a grenade blast near the Guwahati railway station on Sunday on the eve of the Magh Bihu festival.

The blast occurred at 7.30 p.m. near the entrance of the station and the State Transport Corporation bus terminal, a few feet away from the boundary wall of the Paltan Bazar police station.

Deputy Inspector General (Central Western Range) G.P. Singh told reporters that preliminary investigation indicated that the grenade was lobbed by a militant of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) at a CRPF platoon on patrol duty.

Thirteen of the injured were rushed to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital while four were treated for splinter injuries at a nearby private hospital.
